About Fantasy Pumpkin's Free Pumpkin Carving PatternsI make patterns for many of the pumpkins I carve. At this point I have over 50 free, printable pumpkin carving patterns and stencils below. Feel free to use these patterns for your own pumpkin carving, including printing vast stacks for your pumpkin carving parties! Feel free to use them as patterns if you are planning to sell non mass-produced pumpkin carvings, and also feel free to modify and repost them elsewhere (see license below). But you do not have permission to take and resell the patterns or modify and resell these patterns. If you do use the patterns to sell pumpkins on Ebay or another website, please give me credit for the pattern, along with a link here. How Long Does it Take to Make Your Patterns? The longest I've taken on making a pattern was 23 hours (this was for my Dark Dsurian Pattern, which isn't really polished yet). But most take me somewhere between 1 - 12 hours. Gosh! Some of These Look Hard to Carve: Yep. I make patterns for me to carve, and only distribute them afterwards for the public good. Some of my patterns are simple to carve, but many of my patterns would definitely fall into the "Extreme Difficulty" rating on some of the paid sites. I try clean the patterns up for you to use, but you'll find they aren't always perfect. How Do These Patterns Work? This page assumes you have done pumpkin carving before - specifically a skinned pumpkin carve, where you can either cut all the way through, cut just the skin off or leave the pumpkin skin on to have a 3-color pumpkin. The mockups look like the real carving (often I have pictures to the left of the pattern for you to see how I carved this). The patterns are in gray-scale for you to tape (or glue) onto the pumpkin to trace. To use the patterns, the black color means to "cut through" the pumpkin, the gray means to take off the skin, and the white area means to leave that part alone. In essence, the patterns are an "inverse" color scheme to the colored mock-ups. If you need to learn the basics, I highly recommend going to the CarvingPumpkins.com Instructions section, and then to visit the Q&A board for questions. What Do YOU Use to Carve These Patterns? I use Sally's Graphite Transfer paper to put the pattern on the pumpkin (using a pen w/medium point) - make sure you wash off the extra graphite after the carve w/dishwashing soapy water.. I mostly use the Speedball linoleum cutter "V" wedge attachments (costs like $13 at most craft stores), with handles from Warren Cutlery (The speedball handle works but it is painful to your hand if you carve tons). For mini saws I used to just use the cheapie pumpkin saws, but switched this year to Warren Cutlery's Pro Saw Kit. Why Are You Giving These Away? I'm far more interested in seeing these get carved (please send me a picture to ndickover"at"gmail.com if you do carve them) than I am in making small amounts of money off of them. Why Aren't Your Disney Patterns Listed? While I absolutely love making patterns of Disney characters (for instance, my Maleficent Dragon pattern took me well over 12 hours to create), I cannot post them here. Disney sues people who put their pumpkin patterns online, and I am not really interested in paying for a lawyer. |

Fantasy Patterns
Ciruelo Cabral's Draco
Rating: Medium. This is my most successful pattern. At least 20 people have carved this. |
Anne Stokes' Forest Walk Rating: Very Hard. To get the details around the face, you must be using a very large pumpkin (60-80 lbs). Critical to get the eye, snout and left wing right, or the pattern doesn't work. |
|||
Brisinger
Rating: Hard.The cut-throughs on the chest aren't easy. That plus the overall detail means this pattern will probably take a good bit of time. |
|||
Eastern Dragon Rating: Medium |
Toothless: How to Train your Dragon Rating: Medium, This gets really easy if you don't do much with Toothless's head. If you really try to pattern it, it gets harder. |
||
Green Terror: How to Train Your Dragon Rating: Medium-Easy. This is a wide pattern with a decent amount of detail, but no real problem areas. |
||
Hada Luminosa Fairy Rating: Hard. There's enough detail here that you probably want to enlarge the pattern a bit. The legs can be confusing as well. |
|||
Molly Harrison's Autumn Red
Rating: Extremely Hard. The face, wings, and especially the leggings are very hard to get the definition the pattern calls for. For this reason, the pattern is very large. Molly Harrison, the artist, asked that nobody use this for commercial purposes. |
Pegasus
Rating: Hard. If you're not careful, you're whole wing structure can collapse. Start at the front of the wing and go back. |
Unicorn Rating: Medium-Hard. The unicorn head is where you can run into trouble. |
Legend Lord of Darkness Rating: Hard. The face is the hard part, but the arms and chest ain't easy either... |
Mad Hatter Rating: Medium.There's a little bit of challenge around the eyes and mouth. |
|||
Scifi Patterns
Star Trek Enterprise (New Movie) Rating: Hard. Definitely difficult to get the cone looking right. Do the inside first, and then use a small saw for outer cone. Spend time making sure the saucer is distinct from the warp drives. |
Mockup |
|
Avatar Torukmakto Rating: Very Hard. To do this pattern you really need a large pumpkin (60lbs+) - hence the large pattern size. The detail won't show up otherwise. |
||
Neytiri Rating: Medium-difficult. Nothing super complicated, but this pattern has lots going on - enough that you can get lots. If you don't get the eyes and mouth right, it will look off. |
||
Robby the Robot: Forbidden
Planet
Rating: Very Hard. There's just a lot of detail here, especially on Robby's head. |
Forbidden Planet Monster
Rating: Medium. Not a simplistic pattern, but definitely doable by most carvers. |
Horror Patterns
Anne Stokes' Drider Rating: Medium-Hard. The face and chest is a bit challenging. Use a really small V-wedge for this. Same if you want to make the hairs like I did on my carve.. |
|||
Anne Stokes' Aracnoid
Rating: Very Hard. Just figuring out where to cut on this is difficult enough. Add the detail and... |
Hand of Soul Stealer Rating: Medium-Hard. The eye is the harder part, but there are enough cut-throughs that the pattern can collapse if you aren't careful. |
|||
Royo's Evolution Sculpture
Rating: Hard. there's a lot of detail to keep up with - critical to get the face/eyes right or the pattern falls flat. |
Cheshire Cat Rating: Extremely Hard. Carve the face. I dare you... |
Ash Evil Dead Rating: Hard. The cut-throughs on the face and hands are pretty difficult. |
Cherry Darling, Grindhouse
Rating: Medium-Hard. Plan on spending more time than you planned to for this pattern. |
Nosferatu Rating: Medium-easy Get the eyes and teeth right and the rest of the pattern almost doesn't matter. |
Ghost Story Rating: Medium
|
Ghost Rider
Rating: Medium-Hard. There's enough detail in the name and face to give you trouble.

|||
Heroes of Newerth: Maliken Rating: Medium-Hard. The face and beard area is a bit challenging, and there a lot of detail. |
|||
Castle Crashers Rating: Medium. The cut-throughs on the face are the only real challenge here. Keep superglue on hand in case you cut something you shouldn't.. |
||
Boo (Mario Party)
Rating: Easy |
Where the Wild Things Are Rating: Medium-Hard. The detail work around the pants and face are the issues. For the legs, use a V wedge to justgouge out the triangle slices. |
Brisinger Rating: Medium.Teto and the face are difficult, but the rest is pretty easy. |
||
Naausica's Teto
Rating: Medium-Easy. Nothing too complicated here. |
|||
Totoro Rating: Very Easy. Very easy pattern for kids wanting their first 3-color pattern.. |
|||
Jack Skellington Rating: Medium-hard. The only hard part about this is doing Jack in a way that you can see through the shaved areas (meaning it has to be thin) while still keeping Jack upright. Consider hiding a toothpick behind him to keep him upright. |
||
9 (Movie) Rating: Medium. Some work around the eyes, but nothing really complicated. |
|||
Coraline Rating: Medium-Hard. Unless you have a flat pumpkin, you really want to make sure you wrap the pattern well to keep your perspective. |
|||
Batman Begins
Rating: Easy. Nice payoff here for this easy pattern as most love Batman and most remember this poster. |
Despicable Me Minions Rating: Medium-easy. Make sure you leave the mouth section thick enough to give support & you should be fine. Make the mouth wider (skinned part) if concerned. |
|||
Tom Rating: Easy. Consider combining with Jerry. |
||
